question on burning svcd clip

Postby marleys ghost on Thu Mar 20, 2003 11:43 am

I downloaded an interview clip and after I got the whole clip I went to burn to disc.
I use NTI CD Maker 6 platinum for burning. I clicked add video, then step 2 which is burn, and I got a little window pop up that said save as, so I saved as interview and it saved it as a .ncd file, then I click step 2 to burn, and it verifies the format and then records. it wont burn to disc the first time, it's recording that video somewhere, so after it's all done recording then I try to burn to disc by clicking step 2 again, it starts the process all over again, save as, .ncd file etc.. so I tried to burn it as vcd and it states it doesnt support the mpeg 2 format. any ideas on why I cant get this clip to burn to disc? what is a .ncd file, how do I convert it to go onto disc?

I use CD Clone for copying vcd/svcd, should I try to use that or will it not work?

What was the extension of the original file you downloaded?

I don't use NTI CD Maker so I can't be of much help, but it appears that an NTI .ncd file is an image file:

It sounds like somehow you have set up the program to burn to an image file rather than your CD-RW drive. I'm not sure what you did to get to that state.

As for not supporting mpeg-2 format, VCD discs use mpeg-1, not mpeg-2. If you have an mpeg-2 file, try making an SVCD disc instead.

Lots more help about VCD, SVCD and DVD ripping and burning can be found at www.dvdrhelp.com (formerly www.vcdhelp.com).

Hi Ghost,

I can't be sure but it sounds like you may have selected the NTI Disc Image Writer from the target drive list in the upper right corner of the program window. Make sure that your CD burner is selected and try it again.

As wmtanner has suggested, the NCD format is used by NTI for creating a disc image file, so your settings are probably incorrect.

If your original file is not an MPEG file, NTI can convert AVI files to the MPEG-1 format automatically. As cfitz has stated, this is the format used for VCD. SVCD (Super VCD) uses the MPEG-2 format and gives better quality and resolution. Conversion capability from AVI to the MPEG-2 format is not built in to the NTI software, but can be accomplished by purchasing the MPEG-2 Plug-In for NTI CD-Maker 6.0 for $20.00.

Read the Help file to get detailed specifications and instructions for making VCD's and SVCD's.
