DVD - RPC 1 & 2 > zones ?

I'm new to this DVD ROM drives world and I need to understand this terms. What's the RPC on a DVD unit? .. what it does or represent? ... I read that those PRC can be changed? ... what's the use?
I could use some tips .. links .. experience ... anything. I know what an firmware update is. (I updated my Plextor's firmware 1.03 > 1.04 2 days ago :wink:

RPC1 is region free. RPC2 is region code locked. Simple! Dunno why no one said that before :-?
