Is playback of HP (or other) DVD+R poss. on Panasonic CP67?

Postby VEFF on Fri Feb 28, 2003 10:29 am

1) I recently bought a Panasonic CP67K DVD changer (the K just stands for black).

I love the size and quality of the unit and its playback of home movies burned as DVD Video format on DVD-R. Plays all my DVD-Rs.

However, I have a DVD Video on Philips DVD+R and it doesn't play
on the CP67K.

In the player comments on dvdrhelp.com, one user states that it plays
most DVD+R.

I am about to buy a lot of HP DVD+R discs and wanted to know
if they will play on the Panasonic CP67.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

2) I also have trouble playing some VCDs on CD-R with this unit, whereas another of my players plays all of them.
I suspect it is a burn issue (Nero vs Easy CD, TAO versus DAO etc.) since it doesn't appear to be media specific (e.g. some Fuji VCDs on CD-R play, whereas others on same media do not play).

Any ideas?

I will burn some this weekend and check if it is a software or burn setting specific issue.

Thanks!

I use TPMG to convert to svcd then burn it as a svcd with Nero and so far they work in my machines just fine. I don't have the unit you mentioned so I can't comment on it but my Cyber Home and Haier players will play movies and SVCD's made on +rw if I get the settings for the burn right.
They are more picky on the Vcd issue then movies I have made with DVD Xcopy.
They don't always work and it's more of a firmware issue for most drives then a loader thing. Most of them will see a DVD and automaticly assume it's a DVD and never check for other formats, if it's not what it expected it says bad disk.
My Haier has the One Firmware For All patch and now will play mega DVD'S with MPG,JPG, VCD, SVCD,MP3's all on the same disk. It would not do this before the modded firmware was installed.
Yo7u might want to check out http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/ and look up your player and also just poke around for recomendations on how and what to burn to work with it.
Most of the normal players like yours will not use the OFFA patch but capable chinese built players are everywhere cheap, at least here in the US. I used my DVDRW capability a bunch figuring out what would work and what wouldn't ;)

My friend has a Panasonic 5 disc DVD changer that plays DVD +R and +RWs without any problems. I don't know if it's the same model as yours, but it is one of their newest models and has a mirror like finish across the entire front panel.

Interesting. Mine had the mirrorlike finish too. It might very well be the same.

Unless it is in my authoring, which I seriously doubt, because all three of my remaining players play my DVD-Rs and two of three play my DVD+Rs.

The Sony 715P plays both Nero and Stomp burned discs.

In any case, the Panasonic was very slow at detecting burned discs
(DVD-Rs); the Sony is very fast at detecting discs, and also more user friendly.

In addition, one guy at avsforum (who spent hours comparing the CP72 which is actually one model up from the highly regarded Panny I returned and Sony 715P side by side (two DVD players, two of each disc etc.) couldn't see any real difference!!! He noticed one difference where the CP72 was marginally better than the 715P, which was so minor that he had to be looking for it to see it, and which only occurs during certain action scenes.

I wouldn't say that it's slow, but I don't have a Sony to compare to. It generally takes a couple of seconds after the disc has roated into position for the first three O's to light up, then one of the other indicators lights, then the fourth O, and finally Play. I think the whole process takes about 5 seconds. I do occasionally have a problem with +RW discs burned with my new NEC 1100A 4X writer, but +R discs have all played without problems. I'll try to get the model number of the player tonight.

Yes, let me know the model number.
I am curious.

What software are you using to author?
What software are you using to burn?
My +R discs were all burned with my DRU-500A fw 1.0g
The -R (all worked) were burned with my A05 and DRU-500A

Got to run to pick up my hot deal leather chair... :)

Ok the player is a CP72 and I used both an NEC 1000A and 1100A to burn the discs. So far, I've only used DvdXcopy and Nero to burn.

Thanks for the info!
The CP72 does DVD Audio, which mine didn't, so maybe the laser is also different.
