Ripping dvd's with dvddecrypter

Postby kriscoolio on Sun Mar 09, 2003 5:38 pm

Hi, i have a question regarding dvddecrypter and region codes. I have a sony dru500 dvd writer which is set to region2 (europe). Now my question is if i want to rip an american (region 1) movie, does this affect the region code on my dvd writer. I will only use the sony for writing and not playing.
I get the following message : Media region code is mismatched to logical unit region!! The slower 'Brute Force' VOBDec/deCSSPlus cracking methods will be used instead of I/O key exchange.
Can anybody give me some advice please??

Thankx in advance! :(

My understanding of the region coding is that the reader is the one that is important for ripping. If you have a Pioneer A06 reader and it is set to region 2 you will not be able to read a DVD that is set to region 1. That will pose a bit of a problem in ripping that DVD. You would need to get that drive firmware burned to region free or something. I don't think the burner is significant because after you rip it with the A06 through DVD Decrypter there won't be a region on it any longer so the burner region code is insignificant. Now if you are reading and writing with the burner (as some pople do even though it is slow) it will become a factor.

Hope this helps.............
Have fun.........Bob
