All it says on thier site is:

LTR - 52327S
COMING SOON !!

So I guess we are going to see a Litey 52x32x52. That's cool. 32x Rewritable is awesome (if anyone ever used rewritable cds.)

I hope they don't stick with CAV rewriting, otherwise even at 32x it won't be appreciably faster than the 24x P-CAV rewriters like Yamaha's F1.

But it's made by the same people who make the 12x & 4x cd-rw's. Infodisc.

Hey guys

Does the "7" at the end of the model # (52327s) mean it is built on another series chipset (like Mediatek 7 instead of 6 like the current 52x24's are) ? If so, does this mean that we won't be able to just overclock our current 52X24X52 lite-ons to the new 52327s?

What do you guys think?

Yes, I think you are correct that we will not be able to flash the "6" series to "7" series.

Any more opinions want to weigh in? Is this indeed going to be a Mediatek series 7 chipset?

If so, I think we may finally see P-CAV writing speeds at least in 24x RW mode. It would probably only get better with a new firmware rev.

I think this needs to be added to the FAQ section...

The number does not coincide with the MediaTek chipset. It's signifies the generation of drive design. But yeah, Lite-On does usually use a different chipset for each new drive even though the difference could be as small as a new servo controller or something.

do they really suck? i have alot (10) of the 10X CD-Rw discs and i havent had any problems. i use them to make data cds for backup frequently. what was your experience like and which ones do u recommend? Memorex CD-RWs are the only 10x and 24x ones at Best Buy, so i didnt put any thought into it. have u tried the 16-24x ones from Memorex also? i just brought some of those too

Read through all the posts linked from my post, and you will see a lot of people unhappy with Memorex CD-RW discs, and a lot of examples of bad Memorex CD-RW test results. That includes the latest 16x-24x versions.

I have not touched a Memorex CD-RW since I bought a 10 pack of 80 minute 4x discs:

That was the worst of the lot. The other's didn't fare much better. 8 out of 10 died within 2 months. Several were dead right out of the box.

I have read of other's problems with the 10x Memorex CD-RW's. I don't often 'throw good money after bad" so I just avoid Memorx for CD-RW's.

As far as I know, Memorex are the only one's shipping a 24x CD-RW that is 80 minutes long. If they were made by anyone other than InfoDisc (even CMC) I'd try some.

I learned from my mistake (& other's). I just use Verbatim CD-RW's now.
I've never had a bad disc yet (and I own around 30 Verbatim's).

At least here in Europe, Verbatim is shipping 80 min. Ultraspeeds. The scan I posted in the Media Compatibility Thread was for a virgin disk though. After several erase/rewrite cycles, they perform essentially the same as the 74 min. disks.
