Nero CD-SPEED problems

Postby aniv3 on Mon Feb 10, 2003 3:58 pm

I have the latest nero, and when I 2 use the CD-SPEED and try 2 run some tests it just doen't work:

it loads the "spin up drive" screen (though the CD-ROM itself appears to do nothing), and I get the following error message:

"Error - PARAMETER VALUE INVALID (052602)".
furthermore, when I try 2 test a quality of some of my cd's (original and burned) it behaves very strangely:
the graph runs red like wild, the speed is bout 850x and the number of errors runs around: 500,000,000.
The CD-ROM itself isn't doing anything... in short - it's just NOT WORKING....

PLZ help me out here...
I have WinXP
Sony CDRW CRX-175A1, Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M1612

It's probably a problem with the type of disk in the drive. Try doing it with an older disk that you know has no copy protection and is very clean.

Please send me information about your Recorder and system.

What model recorder ( I know you have it mentioned here)
Firmware version
Use Nero Info Tools to list all the drivers you have on your system and print this and send as well.

And as much information about your system as possible.

Forward this to me at techsupport4@nero.com and I will forward to our Q&A team to test and see if they can duplicate this issue.

If we can duplicate it, we can resolve it.

Regards,

Craig

we need more info to try and help you out.

system info and configuration:
what burner do you use, what firmware.

system: motherboard/chipset
operatin system, SPs? etc.

IDE configuration: what drives do you have and how are they set up on the IDE channels.
what IDE drivers are you using.

what burning software do you have installed.
any packet writing software?
ASPI installed? if so, which version/s, how were they installed?

did you try to update the firmware of your drive?

did you try to uninstall Nero+Nero Toolkit, clean up the registry and reinstall?

did you receive any help from Craig Campbell?

too bad Craig Campbell has'nt helped out :o :x

it's also a pity that you didn't bother to answer the questions i asked you.
you just dumped the huge InfoTool output.
it would have been much more courteous of you to answer the questions. your'e asking other people to help you out, at least you can answer simple questions like i asked instead of dumping this huge text and expect us to dig into it and sift through to find the relevant info.
not very friendly :x

...

i'm not an expert on Sony/Lite-On drives, so i don't know if the 5YS2 firmware you have is the latest for your drive. maybe someone else will comment on that.

it appears that you have Adaptec ASPI 4.71. this is know to cause trouble with WinXP. there have been many such reports. it is recommended that you remove it and install ASPI 4.60.

here's a couple of links:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_s ... rcaspi.cfm
http://www.cyrus.troy.btinternet.co.uk/downloads.htm
from which you can get ForceASPI, which can remove the current ASPI and install 4.60.

you also have Roxio's UDF Reader installed. you don't really need this to read packet-written discs by DirectCD, since you already have DirectCD installed. it is strongly recommended you uninstall it.

EDIT: not really sure about this one...so maybe you should not uninstall the UDF Reader, unless you don't actually use DirectCD (read below) in which case remove both of them.

also, if you don't use DirectCD, you might consider uninstalling that too.
after that you should clean your system of all the remaining drivers it might have left behind, i suggest you read KCK's "InCD troubleshooting guide" in the FAQ forum. although you're not interested in InCD, still that guide has info on how to spot drivers from DirectCD/UDF Reader that interfere with InCD and theoretically could cause trouble for you.

since this is rather tricky (you don't want to remove something the Easy CD Creator needs) and also involves cleaning the registry, i recomment you try my other recommendations first.

I'm really sorry about that big list I dumped over there, I did it 4 3 main reasons: 1) some of the info u requsted is a bit over my knowledge and I didn't know exacly how 2 locate it 2) just wanted 2 cover as much as possible... 3) when I talked 2 Craig he told me 2 give him as much info as I can, so I figured I should do it here 2....
I won't do it next time... sorry 8)

and I will try ur recommendations... hope It'll fix it...

Hi Aniv,

Sorry for the delay in my response. I've been doing some traveling and not enough time at my desk. :(

I've checked through my Emails, and I could not find this email you had sent me. And I do clear out my emails each working day, except when I travel, then it might take two to 3 days before I get to it.

However, with the information you posted here, I did forward this issue to our Developer of the CD Speed utility and hope to get some suggestions from him ASAP, and get back to you on this issue. I attempted to duplicate your issue, but could not with your same model recorder.

Give me 3 days and I should have a response for you. :)

Regards,

Craig

dodecahedron -
I used forceaspi 2 completely remove the aspi layer... hen I re-installed it,
using the latest version (4 some reason the forceaspi util didn't install the 4.6 version)... and there's no change at all -
I can burn just fine but I can't use either of my drives with CDspeed....
what should I do next?
should I completely remove EZCD and nero and then re-install just nero?

i have'nt done it myself, but i believe ForceASPI does let you install ASPI 4.60 (that's the main purpose of ForceASPI).

i would recommend removeing ASPI and not reinstalling it.
definitely not reinstalling the latest 4.71.
neither Nero nor Easy CD Creator/DirectCD need it to work properly, and it might cause trouble, maybe the reason for your problems.

also before uninstalling Nero, i recommend giving Craig a chance, see if he has an anwer for you.

uninstalling the software and reinstalling can help, sometimes this solves problems.

again, if you don't really need/use packet writing, i suggest not installing DirectCD, just Nero.

somehtin very strange is happening:
after I've successfully removed the aspi layer with forceaspi I tried 2 install the 4.6V using forceaspi - it said that all files were successfully copied and the registrey was changed (as it should) but then after I restart the pc and use aspichk it says that I haven't installed the aspi layer
- it isn't present... I've aslo ran a search for the aspi files in the windows dir - none of them r there!!!
4 some reason forceaspi did not copy the necessary files...
any idea what might have casued this??? maybe the win dir is locked or somethin? I don't know... any suggestions?

like i already said, you don't really need ASPI.

make sure it is removed, and then check to see if your system is functioning properly.

I'm getting hopeless here... I also have PowerDVD and EAC, should I try 2 remove PowerDVD? (I don't want 2 start uninstalling every program I think may have somethin 2 do with it and then re-installing it)...

hmm...then it would appear that the problems are'nt caused by the software or ASPI...

did you try using a registry cleaning tool?
here's a link to one:
http://www.jv16.org/
http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/shtml/regcleaner.shtml

maybe that will help: uninstall the burning software Nero, ECDC, DCD, clean the registry and reinstall Nero.

so you use EAC...you do need ASPI then, don't you? for EAC?

i really don't know if PowerDVD would have anything to do with it.

did you hear from Craig Campbel of Ahead?

i'm afraid you may have to do a clear install of windows :o :x if we can't manage to find the problem

sorry man, i done my best to try and help you, i'm at my wit's end.

short of a clean re-install of windows, i really can't think what to do.

one last possible thing to check:
decativate WinXP's built in burning capabilities.

Start button -> Run -> type: gpedit.msc -> OK
then:
User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Explorer -> Remove CD Burning features -> Enabled -> OK

well, you have a Sony drive, this is actually a Lite-On drive, right?
so maybe (probably) it's supported by CD Doctor?
if so you can use CD Doctor to check your burns.

check out the sticky CD Doctor thread
http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=8095
for more help on CD Doctor.

and like i said, a clean reinstall of Windows might help...

I already checked and aniv3 has an older drive that is not, I believe, a LiteOn (or Sanyo, for that matter) and probably won't work with CD Doctor. But it doesn't hurt to try.
