Interpreting InfoTool

Postby georgeg on Wed Mar 05, 2003 2:08 am

I'm running InfoTool on my wife's computer with a mind to backing up the CD burner firmware with mtkflash. While I can understand the output of InfoTool on my computer, on my wife's computer I don't get info I understand. Specifically, I need to know if the CD burner is set up as master or slave on primary or secondary IDE channel. On my computer, I get this spelled out explicitly by InfoTool. On my wife's computer (an HP Pavilion) I get a message that the DVD rom drive is located at 0:0 and the CD burner is at 0:1. I get the impression that the HP only has one IDE channel. This is a somewhat older machine (Pentium II/400) than mine and I'm not real familiar with the internal workings.

0:0 usually means Primary Master
0:1 meand Primary Slave.

1:0 and 1:1 would be Secondary Master and Slave resp.

it does appear as though both drives are on the same channel.
but that doesn't necessarily mean there's only one channel on the motherboard.
