Buffer underrun protection turns on at 44x

I have a Yamaha CRW-F1 and every time I burn a compilation at 44x in Nero somewhere around 50% the read buffer starts emptying and so does the recording buffer. The buffer underrun protection turns on. This happens aproximately 3-5 times until the cd is done. This also happens when I burn at 32x but not at 24x or lower. The cds all come out ok, no errors occur, but still, is this normal? The burner and the hard drive (IBM 40gb) are on separate cables and they're connected to an intergrated ata100 controller. Mainboard: Asus a7v KT133, CPU: Athlon 800, 256RAM, WindowsXP. Any ideas?

Well, something must be slowing down the data transfer. We always have to ask first, in these situations, do you have DMA enabled?

Yes. UltraDMA is enabled.

What are you burning? CDA audio disc? ISO 9660 data disc? MP3 files on a data disc? Are you burning a lot of small files, or a few large files? Is the disk defragmented? Are you running any background processes?

I got it. I switched the burner from the ata100 controller to the mainboard default controller and it works fine now. Thanks anyway.

Oh, yes, add-on controllers are known to cause problems with optical drives sometimes, and for this reason it is generally recommended to put optical drives on the motherboard's contoller. When you wrote "integrated ata100 controller" in your first post, I thought you meant the motherboard's controller.
