INCD crashes every time

INCD crashes every time

Postby Tony B on Mon Feb 24, 2003 2:09 pm

I just bought a Yamaha CRW-F1, ATAPI, running in a Dell Dimension 4100 (PIII, 1GHz, 512MB RAM) and Windows 2000 pro, and INCD almost always crashes during formatting. Sometimes the formatting seems to complete, though very quickly. But when I attempt to copy files to the drive I get an html message stating that my system doesn't support mt. Rainier. It should, unless INCD is not the mt. Rainier support I thought it was and I need additional software.

I am using Memorex Ultra speed CD-RW disks, which are read by the drive as only 10x rather than 24x.

I can write and erase the disks using Nero, but INCD seems to get stuck at some point in the formatting and doesn't progress, almost like it's trying to burn a groove into the disk. Right clicking on the INCD icon in the tray doesn't offer the eject function, so I have to reboot in order to get the disk out.

I have the latest InCD update and drive's firmware version is 1f. Any suggestions how to get Mt. Rainier working? Might the drive be defective (it's less than a week old)?

Also, It's hard to find 24x CD-RW disks, even in New York City. All I've seen so far are the Memorex disks that won't work in my drive. Does anybody know which brands, other than Yamaha's own expensive disks, will be properly recognized by this drive?

Thanks

Stay away from the Memorex CD-RWs. They are terrible quality (made by Infodisc):

On the other hand, people have reported good success with the Verbatim 24x CD-RW media. You can find it for sale all over the place. Just do a search on Google:

5 pack - Verbatim 94458
10 pack - Verbatim 94457

Or, you can get a package of 5 for $7, or a package of 10 for $13, both from Office Depot/Tech Depot/Amazon:

You can also try searching for those part numbers in your favorite comparison shopping engine as well (pricegrabber, bizrate, dealtime, etc.).
