liteon 166s

Postby supaman on Sat Feb 22, 2003 10:57 pm

hi

i just bought this drive and need some advice on what to do to make it region free. I am running Win2K.

Also i now relise that there is LTD-166s and XJ-HD166S from previous post, so even though they are the same specs does the type affect what firmware update is required or do they both accept same firmware.

So what firmware update do i need to make it regionfree, with minimal risk that it will stuff up, considering i am running win2K.

and what happens from then, this dvdrom came with Power DVD, so i assume i wil also need dvd genie or something?

any help will be greatly appreciated
thx

Dimitri has everything you need:

http://digi.rpc1.org or http://digi.web1000.com or http://digitri.tk

Also, the LTD-166S and XJ-HD166S are one and the same and accept the same firmware.

thx for the site, its just now i am a little confused on what exacly makes it regionfree.

do i have to update my firmware by installing one of these

"For Ltd-166s:
DS0B 18-Sep-2002 DS0F 4-Dec-2992 DS14 3-Jan-2003"

or do i just download "Rpcde2" and install just that.

or both and in what order if so

i just bought this drive so i really dont want to get any of this wrong, id just like to repeat i have Win2K, and any previous experiences people had doing this would very helpful.
thx

You can either download one of those RPC-1 firmwares or you can use RPCDE to make your drive Region free...

also on that site it says "There might be the odd firmware version that won't work, so upgrade first"

does this aply to me, in desktop manager it says my drive is
JLMS XJ-HD166s and i did not install anything yet, so i wouldnt really have to upgrade my firmware would i.

They are all undoable, assuming you apply them to the 166S and not some other drive on your system by mistake. The latest 166S firmware is DS14. I would suggest you jusy use rpdce2.
