Well, I found a place to park some images, so I
do want to show the dramatic improvement that the firmware upgrade from SS0A to SS0B on the LTR 48246S made with
this media. All checks were done with CD Doctor on my LTR 48246S at maximum read speed, which is ca. 32x for VCDs. I know there are a lot of skeptics about the utility of RWs, and the error rate that CD Doctor shows with most RW-media is not very reassuring (especially if you can get 50 CDRs (that work) for 94 cents like Spazmogen). The Intenso (Nan Ya) disk with SS0A firmware is typical (12x write):
This burn is fine, but I wouldn't trust it for longterm storage.
An update to SS0B brings
dramatic improvements:
After the initial spike, this is better than most CDRs I've tested (albeit at a lower burn speed). I can post images for 10x (even lower error rate) and 16x (unusable) if there is any interest.
Anyone with a LiteOn 6-series drive who uses rewritables (or wants to) should definitely upgrade to the new firmware. cfitz- is that an argument for you ?
