This Cendyne drive is based on the Pioneer A05. I would look for reviews on the Pioneer drive if you can't find anything on the Cendyne.

As for personal experience, since I don't own this drive, I'll let someone else comment on it. However, here are some user reviews of the Pioneer drive from PCWorld.Com and Newegg.com

2.) http://secure.newegg.com/app/Custrating ... 27-129-122

I too saw that Cendyne drive at Fry's for much less then the $350.00 I paid for mine back in October. I would defineatly recommend that drive for the $189.00 you guoted. I know another person who bought one and they seem to be nothing but a Pioneer A05, at least they do everything just the way the A05 does and look the same except his has a black face.
Man though would look just right on my dual Xeon 3.0 gig Cisco Works server! :) My boss might be less then enarmoured with the idea though. :)
But it sure sound like a better use for it then what we are using it for since nothing ever goes wrong with our Cisco gear anyway.........
Have fun.........Bob

Cranked mine up today ( 239-30 coupon at staples - 50 rebate=159). It burned 20 cd's and a maxell 2x DVD with no problem. It's time to try some cheap media. Any suggestions!
The dvd rw that came with the 105 is toast. Did a full erase and its a coaster.

Tell you what! You can never have enough computers. I have 5 at home and 4 at work incuding one dual Xeon processor unit and most of them are used quite a bit. Of course one of the 5 at home belongs to my wife, all I get to do on that one is fix it! :) But it is nice to be able to slide one in and replace a bad unit when something goes wrong. I have another one on the drawing board. :) Go for it! Tell her you need a stand by rig. That usually works if you get as cranky as I do when your computer goes toes up :)

I got a super hot deal on the second PC, so it was a no brainer :)
The store clerks thanked me for alerting them to the the hot deal (due to PriceMatch possibility that they hadn't thought of).

Well maybe your wife can get something for herself...

My girlfriend already bought some PC gear recently and, almost a DVD player, thanks to hot deals I alerted her to.

Putting together a pretty nice PC is pretty affordable now. Fry's has sales where they sell you a decent motherboard and a CPU very reasonable. My last one was a 2.4 gig P4 with a MSI motherboard for $189.00. That is a big part of the system. A case for about 60 bucks and a couple of drives and you are in business. I have a Belkin switch so I use 4 systems with one video, mouse and keyboard. Don't take long to fill up an office at that rate. My buddy has two P4 3.0 gig systems he put together that way. I have to admit those were a bit too rich for my blood. :) But they are sweet. He can rip one DVD while he is burning another at the same time and the CPU doesn't even break a sweat! Those CPU's are multi-threading CPU's. Really nice if you can afford them. I can't! :)
