GCE-8481B Can't burn at 48X

Postby GuJack20 on Mon Feb 17, 2003 6:34 pm

Hi.

I Just bought a GCE-8481B from LG... it is 48X/24X/48X.

When i start Nero with no CD in drive it displays me the option to burn at 48X but when i insert a disc it Switches to Max 32X. I have tried different types of disks, all 40X CDs but found no way to make my drive write at, at least 40X.... i have also upgraded the firmware to 1.03..but always the same...

I would be very grateful if anybody helps me with this.

Thx

I think that DMA was the solution. After i enabled it i can burn at 40X the discs that say 40X...but i got problems with another brand that says 40X but with my cd-burner can still be written only at 32X ....

thx guys

My pleasure. :)

DMA fixes a lot of problems, so does using the right blank media. Take a look at the Media Compatibility Thread to find more blank CD-R's that will burn at your drive's full speed.

put the writer secondary master and on the other cable the hdd- master and the cd-rom- slave, if you got one. Hope it works
And for the firmware.. I had originally 1.0 version and the writer didn't recognize the 48x write speed. I upgraded to 1.02 and now 48x speed works, but now it doesn't show correctly the available speeds for writing a specific cd... For ex., an imation 32x compatible can be written at 40x.
And pls. tell me where did you find the 1.03 version of the firmware???

Does anybody know how can I find out which is the manufacturer of my lg 8481b? I's not an original, it has only 1 led on the front panel.

p.s. I am VERY pleased of my writer's performance.

Hello.
I´m from spain. I bought this model LG GCE-8481B and it has one led. I think that previous models has two leds (maybe 8480). Do you agree with you firmware upgrade? What did it fix?
Greetings

I have upgraded the Firmware using the info in this topic.

I am also very pleased of my writer performance except for the speed of reading of cd-r's....

WELL it seems i am familiar with this problem
cause i had the same one with my samsung
well the thing is that ur drive is fit as beckham the problem is that the dics u are using although they are marked as 40 x they have a certain digital signature which tells the drive the safest speed to burn so dont woory i too was using the princo one a 48x one which the drive recognised as 40 x only
even i had the same problem once i remove the disc the drive is at 48 x and when puuting a cd in 40 x pops up
u can visit these posts for more in fo
