new tdk burner coming out?

Postby bio25053 on Thu Feb 20, 2003 1:53 am

I work for CompUSA, and I've been debating buying the 4x tdk indiDVD for a few months until today. there is a listing in our inventory of an incoming item. it says "tdk 4x4x4x4x24x12x48x dvd-/+ r/rw internal". They shipped from corp warehouse in dallas today to the stores, so they'll be here early next week.

does anyone have any info on this drive? cuz it's actually cheaper than the indiDVD that it's supposed to replace.

and YES we do have the media for it sitting in the warehouse where I work, but it's not up for sale yet

all I know is it's time to tap return this horrid HP DVD 200i I have now

I've heard some rumblings about it:

Scroll down a bit, it's under "TDK Showcases New Multi-Format DVD Writer At CES"

I just got the current IndiDVD, and love it. Figures, right when I spring for one a better one comes out. Oh well...I'm happy with this one. Don't really need -RW, since I mostly do data backups...

fyi, buy your stuff and compusa and buy tap on it. I get to return my then $400 dvd burner for store credit and get the tdk. And I only paid $20 for this ability. it's like a rental fee. you can return stuff just because it's out dated.

I think he means the extended warranty they sell seperately. A lot of stores will let you upgrade or trade back if the part breaks or you want to upgrade because I think the insurance covers it pretty much so they lose nothing.
If you do a lot of bleeding edge type stuff or constantly want the latest and greatest it might not be a bad deal, also if you just beat your stuff to death :)
