First Look at Lite-On 48x24x48x16x Combo Drive: LTC-48161H

Lite-On's 48x24x48x16x CD-R/CD-RW/CD-ROM/DVD-ROM combination drive LTC-48161H is coming into the retail market soon. It will be cheaper than Samsung SM-348B and LG GCC-4480B. The drive is both small and silent.

DOH!

And I just picked up my LG 48/24/48/16 combo drive today with no Mt. Rainier support.

The guy who first tested the engineering sample yesterday says Nero from version 5.5.10.7 could recognize LTC-48161H properly. CDRInfo.co.kr received the sample yesterday as well. A (p)review will be soon posted.

Personally, I just shrugged. The appearance was not so attractive to me since I've already had the latest LG, Sony, and Samsung drives. The shorter design looked good. He tested a few disks (Lite-On by Ritek) with the drive. It took four minutes to write a full 700MB. It was already late, nearly 6 PM and they had to be gone. There was no digital camera in the office then.

Hey, great link, thanks! Do you know if that is an official Lite-ON site?

Thanks! It is official but just a South Korean Lite-On distributor site.

I posted about it in the CDFreaks DVD Hardware Forum last year.

How else could they have an engineering sample of a drive not yet official released? :D

Very true ;) So they're kind of like www.liteon.ab.pl then too... I want to be a distributer!

How much cheaper than the LG and Samsung is this drive likely to be? Will it bring down the price closer to $50 instead of the current $100?
