DVD media price check

Postby MonteLDS on Sun Feb 16, 2003 9:17 pm

I am on the look out for an online store that sells -/+ since i have the DRU500a.

But one thing is that i am cheap :) I mean a great money manager... so i was lookin for advice on where i can get 2x media in packs of 10 perhaps for a good deal, or where i can get a good deal on 4x media in 25.

Best Buy had the Verbatim dvd+r 50 pack cake box for 99 or so on sale last week. I bought a 15 pack of 2x dvd-r for 37 from them with a $8 MIR.
They had the +r a bit cheaper in the same package but older dvd players sometimes play the - better so I got that. Nero claims 2x burns with my 500 but I haven't done any with them yet.

I found http://meritline.com to be one of the lowest priced sites for media. Your looking at under a buck for 2x and under $2 for 4x media. I also have a DRU500AX and ordered Ritek 2&4x media.

I'll post a full 4x review as soon as I get the media. I am running 2.0c firmware on the 500ax.

Best buy currently has a 50 pack of FujiFilm 2.4x DVD+R's for $99, and 15-packs of the Verbatiums for $44 something.

The Fuji's are two 25-packs bundled together...

Oh, and a 5 pack of Fuji DVD+RW's for $30. I grabbed both of the Fuji's, and both work fine on my IndiDVD. Stupid #$#@ laptop won't read +R or +RW! If I put a +R disc in it says the disc is not formatted...um, ok, whatever...

Worst part about DVD+R/RW is cost...best part is speed :)
I really don't care to much about making DVD movie discs, so...

IME the Samsung 308B cannot read DVD+ discs. I can't update to the latest firmware because I use an RPC-1 version.

speed? the .4x faster then DVD-R typically seems to be.. but then again DVD-R has 4x media commin out finally and then of course their the 4x DVD+R media.. so their really no speed diffrence any more.. just cost
