Hi all, just got it today! No more 700MG limit for me! I got a 5-pack of FujiFilm +RW's and a 50 pack of FujiFilm +R's. I'll be burning a few discs tonight and will post the results later.

Oh, the drive came with one 4x DVD+R disc. No +RW :(.
As for manuals, etc...it came with one. Didn't even glance at it.
Software:
Pinnacle Studio 8 (only software from bundle I installed).
Nero Express (already got the full Nero).
TDK Digital Mixmaster

Results part 1:
Fuji Film DVD+RW disc (no speed listed); burn at 2.4x no problem. Burn time was 23:52, for a nearly-full disc (4.34GB according to Windows).

Nero reports that the FujiFilm DVD+RW's will burn at 2.4x too. Haven't tried 'em yet, though. Now...gotta go find a movie to rip :)

Annoying behavior part 1:
If you have a disc in the drive, eject it, and insert a blank disc, it doesn't show up as blank. It shows the same directory layout as the old data disc.
HOWEVER, probably not the drive...VMWare screwed with my autoinsert settings and I can't fix 'em. POS...

Also the tray seems a bit flimsy (sp?).

EDIT:
Sweet! Pinnacle Studio can convert DivX -> DVD Video. Oh boy...I've got ~250GB's of DivX's...need...more...discs...

PNY (CMC) 40x Rated Discs burn at 16x (max for the drive), surface scan is 100% green. Those discs don't burn for crap in the 48125W drive (8x and unreadable sectors).

As far as I have learned from here and other places one of the advantages of + disks is better error management and that they are designed to burn at 2.4 speed. The +rw that came with my 500a burns at 2.4 also and it is nice to do a whole disk in 20 minutes or less.
Haven't found any media here yet that burns faster then that for me.
Both of my main players seem to be able to play +media movies as long as the mode is set properly.
If I'm wrong I'm sure we'll both find out here soon :)

I haven't seen 4x +R's in stores yet, but at least everything should burn at 2.4x. At least the drive came with ONE 4x disc...

I'll be converting a DivX->DVD tonight and try it out. I've got a Sony 300 disc changer, don't know if it'll handle the +RW's yet or not. Should be able to do +R's no problem. But I did want this mostly for data. Gotta get me a DVD player that can play DivX's off DVD+R's.. :)

From what I've heard the Kiss player will do Divx out of the box, don't know if it supports it on DVD disks though. I have a little Koss Portable 216 dvd that will play MP3's off just about any format of dvd nedia I burn them to, the other machines wont do that, but it won't play divx directly, MPG, no divx.
It's been fun trying different media formats and burning methods to try to see what works with what and what doesn't ;)
At least the Sony has plugged right along so far, no bad disks, no heat problems, just works.
I have been doing Invader Zim episodes to SVCD, I should run them all to a dvd RW and see if they work.... Then put some MP3's and MPG's too, if a player handles it all it can do most things....HMMMM
