DRU500a flash fail help

Postby robbroy on Sat Feb 08, 2003 6:02 pm

I upgraded my DRU500a to new firmware 1.0g in the hopes of better media compatability.

Ubfortionately my system froze on install reboot, and the drive now takes about 20 minutes to write a cd-r. I downgraded back to firmware 1.0f
but it did not help.

Any suggestions?

regards,

Ouch...freezing stuff when doing firmware upgrades is not good. So the firmware did update but then your system froze while it was doing the reboot after the upgrade? That may mean you are ok firmware update wise but your computer itself has gotten screwed up in the process. One thing I suggest trying just to be sure is to go into your device manager and uninstall, aka remove your DRU500a from the hardware list. Then shutdown, unplug the drive, boot windows with it unplugged, shutdown, then plug it back in again.

Basically let windows redetect the drive and see what happens. If that doesn't help then it may be possible your firmware got damaged. Should that be the case, I'd recommend contacting Sony about it unless anyone else here has a suggestion.

Thanks.

I tried your suggestion but, unfortionately it did not work. I also reinstalled firmware 1.0g.

It is still taking over 20 minutes to burn a cd. Before I go back to Sony, I ask is there a way to clear the eprom and then flash it. I think my problem is firmware. My other recorder (non-Sony) is working fine (<5 minutes for a cd burn).

Thanks,
