Cendyne DVR-105 Drive Quick Question

Postby p.diniz on Fri Feb 07, 2003 4:26 pm

Hi everybody,

I recently bought a Cendyne DVR-105
drive and installed it on an external enclosure with USB/Firewire.

Now when I put a Music CD in the headphone jack in the front does not work - there is no sounds coming out even though the laptop has music playing.

Yes, I did check the headphones and the volume control knob.

I could understand if it were a DVD with the different encoding that the phone would not have any sounds but with a CD?

Any experience with these drives out there?

Thanks

Pedro

PS: By the way this is the second unit- I went back to Staples and swapped it, so at this time I'm more convinced it is a feature :-)

Do you know how the external device handles that connection to the motherboard? That could be problematic in an external drive. In an internal drive there is an audio cable to connect to the drive without which there is no audio at the headset connection. Not sure how that model accounts for this but you might want to look into that.

Hope this helps........
Have fun.........Bob

You have digital audio playback enabled somewhere, so the music is being transferred in digital form:

CD's digital data->DVD drive->IDE->USB/Firewire->computer->sound card->converted to analog->speakers

To hear the music over the headphone jack on the drive, the drive itself needs to convert the digital data from the CD into analog:

CD's digital data->DVD drive->converted to analog->headphone jack

There are ways around this, but before I suggest one, please give me some information. First, what CD player software are you using? Second, are you married to that player, or would you use another? Last, what is the digital CD audio playback setting for your drive as listed on the properties tab in device manager?
