Looking for some details on the new TEAC 52X24X52.

I saw today that the drive will soon reach our country (PRE-ORDER) and i was wondering if anyone can supply me with some details about this new drive since my search for specs hasn't produced any intersting results.

The only feature i do know of is an access time of about a 100ms.

it's Asus OEM or maybe Asus or Teac work as OEM companies or have a joint venture now....Also TDK's 48x24x48 version 2 is similar ASUS/TEAC. (search in this forum for post about it)

To start with, I can't read Czech... So if would be kink enough to translate some of the details it would be nice of you..
I did see this "čtení CAV, zápis CLV a Z-CLV???, přepis CLV a CAV?". So does it mean that these guys are not sure if it writes (guessing RW) CLV(=P-cav) or plain Cav..?

I also saw in the link you provided the word Asus, assuming that this is why you are sure that The drive is actually Asus-based.
We've had the same argument before about the 48/16/48 and i believe that it isn't Asus-based..

TEAC CD-W552E is most likely based on ASUS' design, like previous TEAC is. Drive is available in Europe for more than a week.

It is able to write to CD-R media with the following speeds:
4X, 8X, 12X, and 16X (CLV mode)
24X, 32X, and 40X (Partial-CAV)
52X (CAV)

To CD-RW media it can write at 2X, 4X, 8X, 10X, 12X, 16X (CLV) and 24X (Partial-CAV).

It has a buffer of only 2 MB and the average access time is indeed 100 ms.

And i would also like to know how about backing-up protected data media compatibility, on-the-fly writing times, overburn abilities etc.. Basically if it's better in anything than the LTR-52246S i want to know about it.

BTW, have you noticed the lack of the 48X speed??

I'm quite sure it uses a MediaTek chipset, like Asus and previous Teac. Therefore it should be capable of backing-up protected CDs and overburning up to 99 mins. For detailed comparison you'll have to wait for someone to review it.

Yes, I've noticed the lack of 48x writing speed. I'd say that's a typo, as is for red led, indicating writing activity. Both leds are usually green.

P.S. I posted a complaint to German TEAC regarding bad media support for their 48x drive. It's most likely a firmware issue, but it turns out TEAC is unwilling to support this drive. I've usually received a reply within two days. To this message I didn't receive any response for over a week.

Han, the how did you find out that they don't want to support this drive??
It's shocking for me.. I've always set TEAC's burners as the highest standard, and what you said will really make me reconsider my attitude towards their productes. And besides that, if they haven't answered you in more than a few days... It seems to me like i can't relay on their technical support if i ever need it.

Well, a lot of users have complaints about Teac 48x and many of them sent requests to support more high speed media. One of them posted Teac's answer in our local tech forum that quite clearly states what I've summarized above.

There’s no Firmware update planned for that particular drive. We produce our devices in an industrial Standard to give the best possible Media Compatibility. The 'majority of Media' is not as good as the named Medias (Philips, Plextor, Memorex, TDK and Traxdata). That’s the problem.

Yeah, TEAC America isn't even offering a retail version of their 48x writer. It sounds like it was a bastard side effect of their 52x CD-RW.

Can it be OC'd to 52x?

What a shame to RUIN a trusted brand name like that -- just like Sony did with some of its products in the '90s.

Maybe TEAC's been secretly "acquired" by some other corporation....

Well, at least I feel good having "acquired" the culmination of the long line of fine TEAC recorders -- the CD-W 540E!
