ok we all know that 1.0f seem to screw up your chances of using the riteck 4x media unless you down graded to 1.0d

Has any brave soul willin to possibly waste $1.75 plus shippin' tested this out the riteck media to see if it will now burn @ 4x with this new upgrade?

I have installed the 1.0g firmware upgrade on my Sony after down grading it to 1.0d. That did not work! I have both Hyper Micromedia and DVD-ON 4X media available. I have not had an occasion to burn anything yet though. However the DVD-ON media was tried on another Sony drive that is here and has the 1.0f upgrade on it and it did burn at 4X. According to ADVDINFO DVD-ON media is nothing but Ritek 4X. There must be some difference because this same drive could not burn at 4X with the Hyper Micromedia.

The system here that has the Sony with the 1.0g firmware on it has a problem reading ADVDINFO. When I select and option and hit the "Read DVD Struct" button I get a message that says "ASPI command returned: "Sensekey 05h; ASC 24h; 24h; ASCQ 00h" Does anyone have an idea what all of this means? I get that when I try to read a disc on either the Sony drive or the Pioneer A06 so it must be a system problem.

...........
Have fun.........Bob

Does 1.0g still allow burning at 2x on 1x certified Lead Data DVD-R's? TIA.

Not sure on the Lead Data's yet myself. In regards to the Ritek 4x thing...do you by any chance have DVDxopy 1.4x installed on your system? If so a few people are reporting that it appears that a file that installs with the gear drivers that come with DVDXCopy is responsible for the downshift from 4x to 2x mode with Ritek media on Sony 500 drives. A potential fix for this is provided by the same people who reported it over on the DVDXCopy forums. The problem occurs with both f and g firmware. The file that installs also seems to add about 3 seconds onto shutdown/restart times. So if you've got DVDXcopy check it out and that may solve your problem.

boblx2: in your case it sounds like you need to update or reinstall your ASPI drivers. Check adaptec's site for the appropriate ASPI drivers for your operating system. That should do it for you. The fact hat it occurs with 2 different model drives makes me think that should resolve the problem.
