DRU500A - which 2x DVD-RW media?

Postby HyperYagami on Tue Feb 04, 2003 2:05 am

Hi all,

I'm trying to buy some 2x DVD-RW brand-name media for my DRU500A...will these 2 do it?

TDK DVD-RW47S
http://www.pcconnection.com/scripts/pro ... _id=258553

Sony DMW47L1:

I know they'd work with DRU500A according to the media threads...just not sure if they'd burn in 2x.

Thanks!

Why not just buy + R/W DVD's and not worry about whether it will burn 2X or not ? All + media burns at 2.4X

I have TDK + R/W DVD's that work every time and burn at 2.4X.

Hope this helps.........

Have you been able to find a good deal on +RW media? I have refrained from buying it so far due to price. I wouldn't be adverse to the cheaper brands as long as they worked.

the reason is that my dvdplayer doesn't play +rw...yes otherwise it would've been much easier...

Yeah, you know I have one like that too. My Panisonic DV30 won't play +R/W either. When I use one of those it comes from where I work because that is where the Sony drive is, I have to copy it to a -R when I get it home. My Apex AD-5131 has no trouble with them though.

That is definately a show stopper though!

The Panasonic is a very fussy player. I use it at home in my office for a tester. If it will play on the Panasonic it will play on anything! I use the Apex AD-5131 for my main player though. It will play almost anything. Back before DVD burners came out I was making SVCD's and I had to use Memorex -R/W media to make SVCD's for that Panasonic. Then I bought the Apex player and all bets were off. I have not found a media that it will not play, assuming it is properly authored, etc.

Both look like 1x DVD-RW.

Well it turns out I was mistaken. My Panansonic is also an RV30, not a DV30 as I first reported. And it does work fine with any - format either -R or -R/W but hates +R/W! I have not tried +R though. I often make a trial on +R/W media when I am not sure how something is going to work. So if I want to try it in the Panasonic I have to first copy it to a - format disc. But I also have several A04's and an A05 at home so that is not a problem. I like to use the Panasonic for a test case figuring if it works on it then it should work on any player. :) I don't give away or sell DVD's but occasionally someone in my family will want to borrow one. It is embarrassing for them to later tell me "It didn't work"! :) Bet you know what I mean!

I don't know about these discs, but Princo 2X works OK in my DRU500A.
