Mitsui CD-R 700 MB Gold?

Hi,

I am wondering what is the difference betweeen Mitsui Gold 700 MB and Silver Mitsui 700 MB? Is it worth the extra bucks?
Has anyone use them?

Mitsui Gold has the gold reflective layer and supposedly more gold in its dye. It should also last a few years longer...

I purchased a few of the Mitsui Silver 700 MByte discs to test, but haven't yet given them a thorough look. I can say that they are nothing special when it comes to initial burn quality. They aren't bad, but TY media has significantly better C1 error rates when burned on my drive.

I think Mitsui's claim to fame is long-term archival quality. Presumably that is what you are thinking about since you are interested in the gold series. (There isn't any point in paying extra for the gold reflective layer if you don't intend to keep the discs for a very long time). I haven't yet had a chance to do my own simulated aging tests, so I can't comment on their long-term durability other than pointing you to Mitsui's own longevity claims and the reputation they have established in that regard.

Physically, they seem to be well manufactured with what seems to be a tough anti-scratch coating on the top surface where CD's are most vulnerable.

I do. They are superior. Mitsui sold its business to MAM, which continues the production of Mitsui licensed media...

MAM is "Manafucture Advance Media" not "Mitsui Advance Media" maybe now is independented company.....

FWIW I ran a Mitsui test disc through CD Doctor (Mitsui SG 16x, burned at 16x on LiteOn 52x -- the max speed this writer will allow for this media). CD Doctor reported max 6, average 0.108 C1 errors -- an extremely good result.

Yes, more accurate is Manufacturing Advanced Media, at least for new high speed discs. Under a large MAM title there's a "Licensed Technology of MITSUI Chemicals, Inc." text...

Slower CDRs are still labeled as MAM - Mitsui Advanced Media.
