yes win xp will see both i have done it. but ntfs is by far better just for the file size and also for the stability of it

hoxlund: you mention re-installing XP Pro again, is it on your system now? If yes, just convert the drive you want to, over to NTFS. No need to re-install the OS again. Conversion to NTFS from FAT32 is a one-way operation. You can't undo it, unless you FDISK & format :C.
If you have Ghost, I recommend using it to back up the entire disk before you convert to NTFS. That way, you can FDISK & Format and reinstall the Ghost image of your drive & OS with minimal trouble should you have to revert back to FAT32.

I agree to a point. Stable, yes. The file size was nice when I was heavily into DivX creation. But I lost the ability to use older software that just could not handle the NTFS. Some older games (circa 1998 & 1999) just would not work at all. Mind you, that was with Win2K Pro & NTFS. When I switched to XP Home, I've avoided NTFS as a result.

I was given the option when I set up XP to convert to NTFS or keep FAT32.

I'm @ work tonight so I don't have access to the XP install CD.
Try inserting it into your drive and see if you get an option to convert to NTFS.

I'll check into Microsoft's site for more details.

i have done it once and i did not lose any data it was takeing a fat32 to ntfs on a 2 gig part. with partition magic 7 pro

worked just fine, i installed partition magic in windows, and now all my hard drives are NTFS, didn't lose a single shread of data

all the normal ones do, but i don't do much but play games, chat, email, on this main monster, the specs for this machine are in my sig

P.S. i know that the mobo in my sig is an intel mobo, im in the process of switching over to a P4 system

you can also convert FAT32 to NTFS with the windows XP CD without losing and data.

if need be, you can convert back to fat32 with partition magic 8, also has anyone else heard about this Windows XP 8in1?
