I was in Yong-San yesterday (January 23) to buy some DVD-R media and Sony DRU-500A.

I'd been using a Sony DRU-500A of one of my friend's since then.

I could see lots of LG 48/24/48/16 combo drives in many stores with Samsung SM-348B.

Both for about $100.

I am doing some tests on this drive. Any suggestions? (I hope typing this at the same moment won't affect the performance too much.)

The load time took so long because of a telephone cable interfered with the operation. The PC was doing a lot of other jobs.

Thanks for the info so far Kennyshin. How 'bout a Nero Infotool shot to get the full picture? And can it be made region free like previous LG drives?

Yeah, that was the first I tried to run on the drive but the program could not be launched at all. (I ran it many times before.) I'll try later. :D

I can't imagine a late LG DVD reader not being region-freed!

Neither can I, but stranger things have happened.....
Did you disable all virtual drives before running Nero? I figure you alredy tried this, but then you never know.
Oh, buy the way how fast does it rip DVD-movies? So far it seems to be faster than the Samsung in reading DVD+/-R's. Looks like a cool drive. If only it supported Mt.Rainier.

KennyShin,

How is this drive's performance with CDR/W media?

Is it as quiet as other LG products during burning and DVD playback?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not that interested in CD writing performance anymore since almost any DVD writing is better than the best and fastest CD writing.

I've read some reviews at CDRinfo.co.kr and Brainbox.co.kr and nobody complained about noise.

I recorded some CD-R and ran DVDSpeed and others with 4480B. I couldn't tell whether it was operating at all but then clearly the system fan, CPU fan, and HDDs make more noise than the 4480B drive.

I don't have any CD-R that can support 32x or 48x speed.
