which ide slot?

Postby 1vstheworld on Mon Jan 27, 2003 4:32 am

i've just got myself an asus 16x dvd-rom. the box says it supports ata-100. currently i have a lite-on 24x cdrw (ata-33 or 66, i think) and a ata-133 hard drive.

my question is, which ide channel do i put it in to get the best performance? (eg primary slave? secondary slave? secondary master?)

thanks :)

Should try your DVD-ROM @ primary slave for ATA/100 along with your HD.

Then CDRW on secondary master or slave since it's ATA/33.

However you decide to arrane it be sure your DVD reader and DVD writer are not on the same IDE channel for best performance. They will probably work in almost any configuration but not at optimum performance.
I have a maxtor board that extends my IDE to 3 channels. That is because the system has too many drives for 2 channels but I still have the reader and writer on different channels.

Good luck with it.......
Have fun.........Bob
