HELP! Liteon/JLMS DVD with Win98se reading VCD problems?

Postby oct on Thu Jan 23, 2003 4:03 pm

Here is my problem:

I have 2 PCs, both has LiteOn
DVD drives and LiteOn CDRW drives. One PC has Win98se while the other has WinXP(sp1).

While I have no problems reading "most" of the VCD (Video CD/CD-ROM discs) I have, a few of the VCD discs I got can not be read in both the CDRW drives on both PCs and the DVD drive on the WinXP PC.

These few "Hard to read" VCD can only be read in the DVD drive under Win98se ?!?

I tried moving the other LiteOn DVD drive to the Win98se PC, just to see if it a WinXP thing, and it worked!!!

So it seems the working combo is
Win98se and the DVD drives, but I can not get the CDRW to read the VCDs no matter what (even after installing the latest firmware)...

How Do I get the DVD drive to work under WinXP ???
(I don't care about the CDRWs, as long as the DVD works under WinXP)

Is this a WinXP CD/DVD driver issue, as it's using a default
driver for the DVD drive...

(Other Notes)
Under WinXP/DVD drive, the few "Hard to read" VCDs can be read and the files and dirs can be seen, BUT the .DAT movie file can not be copied or played, WinXP gives Weird error ???
(Very Weird)

I also have a real old PC that has a CD-ROM drive and a SCSI CDRW, both CAN NOT read the few "Hard to read" VCDs...

Configuration

It seems there is many errors on these VCD ( perhaps a bad combination media / burner ) . Older CD-ROM and CD-RW cannot read them probably because of poor error correction abilities .
For your DVD perhaps you have not installed it / configured it in a perfect way . Look at my installation of my Lite-On DVD drive on my website ( no mattter if it is master or slave ) and say how you have installed it under Win XP .
