Well thanks for the help u all gave me now that i have setteled down for a good writer i have another prob hope u all dont mind the thing is that i opened my pc case the other day to find out the adequate wired for my writer i found that one wire i.e an audio cable is attached to my sound card to my cd rom as i wanna keep my cd rom do i need to attach a new wire and if yes i dont have any space for another wire on my sound card
but there is an jack called aux in can i attach my writers audio cable to this jack

I would probably skip the audio cable all together :o . If you do, then the drive does not have to decode the digital signal but instead will send the digital info to your sound card via the IDE bus. The advantage is that your sound card generally has a better digital to analog converter (DAC) that will produce a better quality of sound. At least that is my understanding, perhaps someone else on the forum can properly enlighten us. I know that this has been covered before, but for the life of me I cannot find the thread.

You can attach your writer analog audio output (it also shound have a digital audio output connection) to the aux in of your sound card. In this way you can listen playback of audio cds in both, your cd rom and your writer. You do not need to connect the audio if you are going to use the writer to rip and burn only.
