Some ppl are speculating that it's a repackaged NEC.

I think a lot of manuafacturors are sitting back on their heels right now waiting to see how things develop with multi-format drives before they jump in the market. And barring some defacto standard between the two ever being settled upon, I wouldn't be surprised to see multi-format drives become fairly common within the next year or so.

I have seen where TDK and Verbatim are also thinking of bringing out one of their own also. As far as I can tell Sony is the only one that has one actually on the market yet, if you can find it.

Verbatim and TDK didn´t manufacture drives by themselves, they only re-badge drives from other manufacturers
