InCD and packet writing in general

Guys, Im new here so be nice

I just tried to format a ole cheapo Office Depot branded CDRW with InCD. Everything looks good then I can't write to it or even eject the disk. If I open up Nero and do a "medium info" on it, it still shows it as in "background MRW format" ?!

Systems I am using:

WinXP SP 1 (almost fresh install)
Memorex 52x25x52 (I think it's a Liteon)
Nero 5.10.00 and lastest InCD

- I do have Norton's Systemwork 2003 installed, I heard that might be a problem?

Slightly off topic, but I seem to have problem in general with packet writing software. At work we have DirectCD and it's a 50/50 shot if the disc will format/read correctly. Gez, I mean, this is not a new technology anymore... What's the experts experience here?

I'm just about finished testing various media and InCD.

true.
packet writing in general is not very reliable by many accounts.
at best it is tricky and error prone, more so than "regular" (ISO data) burning.
for anything more than temporary backups, it's best to avoid packet writing.

1. use better media. as packet writing is finicky, at least start out with good media. my favorite is Verbatim - by many considered the best RW media.
2. yes, if you're doing Mt. Rainier, then it is formatting in the background and what you see in the Nero info window is what you should. right click the InCD tray icon and eject the disc (this should take a few seconds), it should stop the formatting and eject the disc, next time you insert it into the drive it will resume the formatting in the background.

First, as dodecahedron said, you should test better media, and eject via the InCD icon (not the burner's button).

I have not heard about any specific difficulties with NS 2003, but at least for troubleshooting you should disable antivirus scanning in general, and file protection on the burning drive.

If you still have problems, please report all details (e.g., getting the InCD mounted message after initial formatting, etc), and your system information as in the second thread above. Moreover, you could extract the final "Existing Drivers" section from the Nero log file and post it here. Maybe you have conflicting drivers installed by other burning programs or plugins (WMP, WinAmp, etc).
