You say to buy only TY then you say use the media checker that Lite-On provides. Well, if you buy only TY media and know it is TY based on the "Made in Japan" statement then why would you ever need to use the media checker? Your argument is contradictory.

This is true, but the point of this thread is to decipher which media is which BEFORE a purchase is made. That is why we went into great detail pointing out how different manufacturers package their CD's.

Hoxlund, please bear in mind that not everyone lives in the good ol' US of A (more's the pity if your media prices are anything to go by....).

If you could show me where to get 1,000,000,000 TY CDRs in the UK for $1.00 I'd be delighted. Problem is it doesn't seem to work that way here. The only TY media I come across is Sony, (..... well, just Sony really!!!) at vastly overinflated prices. Threads like this are very useful if only to teach people how to avoid the dreaded CMC

if i find any mention of where the CDs were produced on the package i count myself lucky...most of the times i don't.

and when i do - it's not made in Japan - guess i'm not lucky after all!

TY disc are only made in Japan. Your Princo disc are made by either ProDisc or CMC.

Well, the inner ring is frosted, which is a characterstic of TY media, but the serial number doesn't look right:

And the coloring is wrong (assuming you are showing the bottom side of the disc). It is much too light. TY uses cyanine dye, which is a darker blue-green than what you show.

Why don't you put the disc in your drive, run CD Speed, select "Extra"->"Disc Info" and tell us the ATIP information? Alternatively, use CD Identifier or SMART-BURN (the program, not the technology). That should end the speculation.

30-70 year life, i can live with that, by the time that rolls around ill have all my cd images stored inside my brain

and whenever you wanted a cd image or data, just touch heads like the coneheads do

Of course, all of these figures are extrapolations, and are based on properly stored discs. So don't see 30-70 years and think you can leave your discs lying out in the sun, heat and humidity. If you do have an application where the discs might be exposed to direct sunlight, heat and humidity (e.g. discs for your car's CD player), the phthalocyanine discs might give you a practical improvement in lifetime.

24x : focus or tracking error - the writing aborts at about 1/3rd of the CD.
16x OK. CDSpeed quality check with Memorex DVDMaxx 1648 : >30000 errors, some red bars once 48x is reached.

I gave up and switched to Fnac Gold. 24x burning OK, CDSpeed zero errors, reaches 50x.

Don't just trust Fuji. They can be good, or bad.

Most Fuji media available here is from Fuji (like you found out). If you live in Europe, have a look at InstantInfo. This is a German site, but has some validity in the rest of Europe too, and e.g. Israel. It's not always up to date, but is quite useful. Intenso is a German reseller and does not produce its own disks, definitely not the source of your Samsungs. I've had various media from Intenso- the last ones I bought were some very good 24-rated Prodiscs (no longer available) that are fine at 48x.
