JLMS LTD-166S and CDS-200/Key2Audio - Post your experience

Postby vio_man on Tue Jan 21, 2003 9:36 am

Hello to you guys.

Well, it seems that our former LiteOn LTD-166S drive, now called JLMS XJ-HD166S, has some problems with CDS-200 (Cactus Data Shield 200) and Sony's Key2Audio. Using both DS0F and DS14 firmwares I cannot extract the number 1 track of my CDS-200 protected Audio CDs. Exact Audio Copy can rip all the other tracks, but not the 1st one. And that track can't be played too. About playing, Windows Media Player 9 sometimes plays all the tracks, and sometimes it won't play any. EAC plays all the tracks, except the number 1. I disabled the Windows autorun for both audio and data CDs and added the -nomultisession parameter to EAC's shortcut.

Please post all your experiences with your XJ-HD166S drive and CDS-200/Key2Audio audio discs. Don't forget to say which firmware you used.
I will use your reports to inform JLMS, so they can fix the firmware.

But you had already succeeded for copying CDS200 :o . I had no problem with CDS200 ( at first i was thinking it was key2audio ) with nero ( DSOF Firmware ) in RAW image mode or track by track mode . But i have noticed that with DS14 Firmware i cannot anymore extract the cd track by track ( though it works well in RAW image mode ) .
Of course Windows Media Player 8 does not play the original tracks at all with DS14 Firmware whereas with DSOF Firmware it played them but i was hearing noise instead of song .

Also my copy is not perfect since sometimes it is not recognised by my LTD-166S but it works well most of the time ( don't hurt me ! Iwas thinking it was perfect since i had tested on others CD ROM/ CD PLAYERS and it was working ) . I'll change a bit my review .

In all cases it's the only DVD ROM drive i know able to copy audio protections . So my main conclusion will not change ( i'll remake my review soon ) .

I was wrong. Which software did you used to extract the audio tracks? I used EAC (Exact Audio Copy) and it would extracts all tracks, except the number 1 track. It works the same with firmware DS0F and DS14.
Media Player 9 sometimes play the tracks, then I try again and the disc starts spinning up and down... :(
I would advise you to send a report to JLMS, so they can fix the firmware.

I have read Windows Media Player help . I
By disabling "digital audio playing " in DVD ROM properties to enable analogic audio copying ( with the internal analogic audio cable ) i have solved my problem . Now it seems to read it like any other audio cd . It is recognised in a fast way at insertion ( recognised four/five times ) and it is well read . I've copied track 1 and track 4 to test it and it seems good for the file size ( 5 Mo WMA max file for track 1 ) . My system configuration was bad .

I use only Windows Media Player to play audio cd or copy one track on my hard drive , not to record cd audio of course .

Try to use EAC to rip the tracks, and check if you can rip all.

First the drive had some problems to recognise the cd today ( yesterday i was lucky ) . So it is like you said . Sometimes it is not recognised .
When it is recognised Windows Media Player can play it and EAC can rip all the tracks . I've checked all the tracks especially track one which is almost identical with original track ( i mean i cannot hear differences so there is no noise added on the track ) . It is a 36.9 Mo WAV file .

It seems the firmware is unstable. EAC never rips/plays the track 1, I tried several times and with no luck. Window Media Player could play the track 1 once. I already reported this issues to JLMS. If you can please report too.

My problem is only that CDS200 protected cd is sometimes not recognised .
I have not problem with EAC or ripping . But i'll report tonight because your ancient topics and reports have been useful for me .

Is the protected audio cd you try to rip the ancient one or a new one ? Because Macrovision said they'll replace CDS200 by CDS300 in 2003 ( my CDS200 protected cd is a christmas gift )

I'm sure my CD is protected by CDS-200 and not CDS-300. My ex-LG writer could read the software track and I could check the CDS version. My CD is always dected by EAC but not by WMP 9, sometimes WMP can't play any track.
