Only TY For Me

I am happy to say that all of my blank CD's are now made by Tayio Yuden.

I have:
Fuji 40x
Fuji 48x
Memorex 40x

The only other disks I have which are the few exemptions are:
SKY Labeled (Ritek Produced?) 99 min. CD-R's
Memorex CD-RW 4x 80 min. (Datastone)

I ordered them today online and gonna pick them up on Tuesday on the way home.

<sigh> getting TY around here for less than $0.80 a shot around here is nigh on impossible, or else I'd buy nothing but TY media either.

TY: not for me.

I can get Verbatim 48x Super Azo DLP that burn @ 52x for cheaper than the TY's are selling for.

Canada seldom get rebates on media.

But, I do have a 10 pack of 48x Fuji's kicking around here somewhere too.

Well,

I would imagine that TY cd's might not work well with some burners. (Non Lite-On Ones)

Last Time I checked though Spazmogen had a LTR-52246S. Being a Lite-On.

Welp, I got them and they sure enough are Taiyo Yuden's. I believe that this is my first batch of TY's. They look well made and seem good so far.

But I've tried both, and I actually like the Verbatim discs, quality wise they're pretty much the same. I can get the Verbatim's cheaper than the Fuji's though. Verbatim Super Azo (DLP) 20 pack in slim cases are going for $4.99 after rebate @ www.staples.ca I bought 2 packs of 20.

25 cents a disc with jewel case. That's about 20 cents in $US.

Remember: I'm way up North (OK, Ian & Boone are farther North than I am) and we don't have the media sales like the USA does. You just won't find TY's on sale up here. A 50 pack spindle of brand name TY discs will run you about $1 per disc on average. If you're really lucky you can find Memorex TY's @ Future Shop for $29, but I've looked and can't find them in the pile. No screw caps visible when I go looking.

Besides, I'm burning the Verbatim's @ 52x with 0 errors.

I'm still a happy man.

Imation only uses CMC.

Fuji's have always been TY. Memorex uses TY too, but also CMC. Just look for Made in Japan on the label and you know your getting TY media.

As long as we are holding a TY love-fest, here is an example of Fuj/TY media burned (and tested) at 48x on my Memorex 48MAXX (LiteOn LTR-48246S):

That is one good looking error graph, if I do say so myself.

For the sake of comparison, in the "also-ran" category we have Imation/CMC 32x media burned at 32x and tested at 48x:

The gaps on the right hand side are areas where the disc could not be read at all at 48x. Also note that I had to cancel the test at the 91% complete point. The remainder of the test could not be finished due to the unreadable portions of the disc at its outer edge. The gaps and the unfinished portion of the test also erroneously lower the averages, I believe, so actual error rates are higher than reported.

For completeness, I should mention that the same disc read at 8x performs passably over the entire surface. But who wants to have to limit their read speed to only 8x??

Mitsui I've never tried.

Kodak I still see around these parts.

TY is probably the best bang for the buck.

When did Kodak stop producing CD media, especially the awesome gold ones? Also what speed did they stop at for Kodak CD media?

It's okay (but not spectacular) when burned at 40x and tested at 8x:

But who wants to read at 8x?

Much better when burned in a Yamaha at 24x, but still has troubles at the outer edge:

Taiyo Yuden - still unbeaten. (Of course, this only tests initial burn quality. Someday I'd like to take a rough stab at accelerated aging tests.)

About a year ago. I don't know what speed they stopped at, but 24x would be my guess.

Good guess! The last 650 MB Ultima Golds were certified at 12x.

But all the Kodaks burn fine at (max., w/ my Teac) 32x.

How are you guys getting soo low errors on TY cds?

I'm currently burning my TY cds (40X) at 32X and reading them with cd-doctor at 48X
I'm getting C1 errors all over the place, mostly near the end of the cd.
(C1 error: min=0, max=93, ave=12.096
C2 error: min=0, max=158, ave=0.039)

Some reason I always seem to get one thread of C2 error at around 56min into the cd.

I am currently using a Lite-on 48125W CD-RW burner with firmware VSO8. Is there anyway I can improve/reduce the amount of errors on my burnt cds?[/img]
