CD Recording

Postby Albinoni on Mon Jan 20, 2003 10:20 am

I would like to enquire about Nero if it's possible lets say to place a music CD into the CDROM drive, then record or extract that CD or music thats on that CD onto the HDD, i.e to copy the CD to the HDD.

I have used Real Juke box and this program is capable of doing this but not quite sure about Nero though.

Also can some here reccomend me another program that can do this, apart from Real Jukebox, and something that you think would be better than Real Jukebox. I don't think that Winamp or Sonique will do it.

I've done this with Nero w/o problems. You can also use CDEX to extract/rip the tracks as well. Nero will save the tracks as WAV, MP3 or MP3Pro. CDEX will save to WAV, MP3 or OGG formats.

Yes, you can copy your audio CD to hard disk with Nero. Select "Recorder"->"Save Track...", choose the drive in which your CD is inserted, select the tracks you want to copy, the format in which you want to save them, where you want to save them, etc., then hit "Go".

Nero can also save the contents of your audio CD to hard disk as an image file if you choose image recorder as your output device when "burning" an audio CD compilation. This way probably isn't what you are thinking about, since it saves in a format that isn't directly accessible by other programs.

Other popular programs for ripping audio CDs and making compilations are Exact Audio Copy and Feruio:

Yet another program that can rip audio is ISO Buster:

It is a general purpose ISO image manipulation program, so it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the other programs mentioned above. It is easy to use though if you aren't a rabid audiophile.

another small utility for ripping CD audio to your hard drive:
CD DAE

(as a matter of fact this Ian uses this in his reviews when testing the audio extraction capabilities of CDRW drives...)
