Apple DVD-R & Sony DRU500A

Postby MonteLDS on Tue Jan 14, 2003 10:20 am

I just got these Apple DVD-R from Frys for $14.95 (not too bad for instore stuff) and from what a friend said with his Pioneer DVR-A03 he burned @ 2x. i was wondering if anyone used this media with the Sony DRU500A and if it really makes 2x before i have to open the box.. i didn't see it say anything it the thread of media that works with it

That seems like way too much for DVD-R, even if it's branded. There are a lot of unbranded dvd-r's that work at 2x with firmware 1.0f, and cost $1 or less (which I learned from asking others on this site). I have never tried the Apple, solely because of the price. My thinking is I'd rather have 15 generics even if 1 or 2 turn into coasters. I actually haven't had any coasters yet, albeit with limited use so far.

I don't know how many different types of media Apple endorses but I also bought some apple -R media at Fry's but I don't remember it burning at 2X. In fact my A05 would not even recognize it and asked for me to "please insert media."
It did work on my A04 however but it did not burn at 2X. I did not try it on the Sony DRU-500A. I also bought them in single lots. I don't remember what the price was at the time.
Have fun.........Bob

I only learned of these sites recently, haven't ordered anything from them yet, but they all have media that have been reported to work with the DRU-500 on this board:
http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... ght=dru500

Some of the sites are:

http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant. ... ry_Code=DM

http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm?go=vi ... &s_cata=88

https://www.hypermicro.com/store/index.htm

http://www.meritline.com/

Personally, I have been using Khypermedia from OfficeMax, but some people have reported problems with it. It is on special this week as reported in the Hot Deals section for 14.99/10pk.

Hope this helps.
