Anyone tried it?

I've just ordered a BTC 3212IM (hmmmmmmm, cheap tack lol), advertised as a 32x10x40 but looking around I believe it's actually a 32x12x48. These have Mediatek chipsets; anyone know if they go to 40x12x48 (the 4012IM)?

BTW in the past , I didn't manage OC my old BTC 1610IM (16x10x40) to 32x .Still missing (as i have read ) any BTC firmware for 24x ,maybe better OC this old drive....

"Jase" does BTC 3212IM actually support CAV writing ? -I think only recent > 40x BTC drives support CAV

I have just purchased a BCE4012IM. The drives seems OK but I am having trouble with some forms of media only burning at 16X. Has anyone had any success flashing this model. Does this drive use the same chipset as the 48X or 52X. Can i run one of these later firmwares.

I had that problem. I used the firmware above on my 32x (I haven't been brave enough to try the 40x fw yet!!!!!) and it improved things immensely. I would now put this writer in the above average category as the write quality seems very good and media compatibility isn't bad either.

Incidentally, thanks Gary!!! I was sure I'd thanked you before in this thread but obviously not :/ No the BTC 32x is ZCLV, but the speed changes are quite aggressive, changing to 20x at 3 minutes, 24x before 12 and 32x at around the half hour. If this had been released this time last year it could have cleaned up.

These BTC drives are OK IMHO. They're solidly built, very quiet and read and write operations seem to be handled well. A bit more push promoting their products and some effort on the firmware side and BTC could become the next LiteOn, their hardware certainly seems up to scratch.

I have a BCE4012IM drive (which i was dissappointed to see was not supported on BTC's website ). And I recently started having problems with it. It would get partway through burning and then just stop and give me an error (I cant remember the exact error, and i didnt save any logs, but i think it had something to do with the buffer [not buffer underrun though]). I could still hear the drive going and the light was still blinking as if it was burning, but it wasnt still burning. To try to fix the problem, first i updated my aspi layer, and when that didnt work I tried updating firmware. I tried both of the ones listed for 40x12x48x at http://www.teclast.com/qcxz.htm, and neither was recognized as a CD-R drive by Nero. Unfortuneately i messed up when i thought i was backing up my original firmware, and I dont have it anymore . Does anyone have some other things I could try? Should I try overclocking to the 4816? underclocking to the 3212? I just want my burner to work again Thanks for any help.

Also, just as kindof an aside, i looked at the settings for the drive under system properties, and it has a red x on it, and says its not working because "a device it depends on, the secondary IDE controller, has been dynamically disabled." I didn't notice this before, and I dont know too much about IDE controllers, so i dont know if there is something I can do to fix this

I had no success upping my BTC 32x to 48x. It took the flash but was not stable. See below


I purchased a Polaroid BurnMax32 ( model BCE 3212im, recognized as cdwriter ide3212). I initially tried without success to get it to work in two machines. Nero wouldn't recognize it. I then flashed it with mtkwinflash using a couple of BTC 48x bins (one was btc482s ). Both flashes worked and the drive burned P-CAV to 48 X but was never stable. I got read errors or occasional hangs. I then flashed to 40x with mtkflash using polaroid_40_V_409h. This hung nero. Finally success with mtkflash and BCE_3212im. Although it is not overclocked it is very stable. Whatever version was on this drive from BTC to Polaroid was crap. If you have problems with your polaroid 32x I recommend flashing it to the factory BTC 32x firmware.
