File names longer than 64 chars. on a DVD-R?

Is there any program or file system I could use that would allow me to write file names containing more than 64 characters on a DVD-R?

The UDF filesystem can support filenames up to a maximum of 255 bytes long. If your burning software fully supports UDF, you should be able to burn data DVD's with long filenames natively.

is this true for all UDF versions?
basically what i'm asking is if i burn a CD in Nero using ISO/UDF, can i also use filenames 255 chars long?
(i belive the UDF used for CDs is different than the one for DVDs, right?)

I wish, but it doesn't appear to be that way in practice. Either I misunderstand the requirements for CD filesystems, or this is where the "If your burning software fully supports UDF..." caveat comes into play. When I try to make a UDF CD-R in Nero it insists on truncating the filenames to 64 characters in order to make them Joliet compatible. I yell back "I don't care about Joliet, I'm trying to make a UDF filesystem! Just leave my filenames alone!", but it ignores my entreaties.

Apparently Joliet compliance checking is still being activated even though I selected a UDF filesystem. Whether this is a bug or is required for UDF on CDs, I don't know. I don't have a DVD burner so I can't verify how it behaves when burning DVDs.

Even if the UDF supports it, every time I create a new DVD image in Nero, UDF or otherwise, it still doesn't like filenames longer than 64 characters.
