POLL:Stomp RecordNow (Max), Nero or other to burn DVD Video?

Postby VEFF on Sun Jan 12, 2003 8:55 am

I was wondering what your experiences burning video to DVD-R/DVD+R as 'DVD Video' discs are:
I read about people (myself included) having had compatibility issues with some home DVD players (depending on model of course) using Nero (depending on settings and versio of Nero used too).
RecordNow Max 4 through 4.5 have all worked well for ME (your experience may differ), based on all three of my home DVD players playing all the burned DVD-R discs (both with my old Panasonic burner and my Sony dual DVD burner).

If you can, please answer these questions, it might help some of us greatly. Thanks!

Burning software (inc. version) used = ?

Settings used (ISO or ISO/UDF etc.) = ?
Compatibility issues with those settings = ?

Media (optional) = ?

Home DVD player model and playback results (i.e. did it work) = ?

Or you can just answer the poll, which is quicker for those with little time :)

Thanks!

Difficult question. Here is my little experience:

All home made DVD using Ulead Movie Factory 1.0 play without problems in all my DVD players. I have tried this with Fuji and Memorex media. I do not know what settigns tehy are using in the burning but they work for me.

Ulead Movie Factory 1.0; udf?; Fuji, Memorex; HP200i 1.36 firmware:
Sony dvp-ns300 = OK
Sony dvp-560D = OK
Sony dvp-PQ1 = OK
Apex 3201 = OK
Lenox 2003 = OK
PC PowerDVD = OK

making DVD backup of our commercial dvd using dvdxcopy 1.3.1, it depends on:
- The movie
- The burning drivers
-The burning driver version
-The format iso/df, udf
-The Media Brand Name
-The Media type +R, +RW, etc.
-The DVD player

Therefore at least in our experience, any combination of the above can give you a different result. For example this happens in "some" but not all movies:

---------------------------------
Gear(default); udf; Fuji DVD+R; HP200i 1.36 firmware:
Sony dvp-ns300 = Fails to start movie. DVD backup message shows up.
Sony dvp-560D = Fails to start movie. DVD backup message shows up.
Sony dvp-PQ1 = OK
Apex 3201 = OK
Lenox 2003 = Parental message, press play continues OK
PC PowerDVD = OK

Gear(default); udf; Fuji DVD+RW; HP200i 1.36 firmware:
Sony dvp-ns300 = OK
Sony dvp-560D = OK
Sony dvp-PQ1 = OK
Apex 3201 = OK
Lenox 2003 = Fails to play at all with CD-DA message
PC PowerDVD = OK

Gear(default); iso/udf; Fuji DVD+RW; HP200i 1.36 firmware:
Sony dvp-ns300 = OK
Sony dvp-560D = OK
Sony dvp-PQ1 = OK
Apex 3201 = Fails to start movie. DVD backup message shows up.
Lenox 2003 = Fails to play at all with CD-AD message
PC PowerDVD = OK
---------------------------------------

Internal Nero 5.5.9.22(alternate); udf; Fuji DVD+RW; HP200i 1.36 firmware:
Sony dvp-ns300 = OK
Sony dvp-560D = OK
Sony dvp-PQ1 = OK
Apex 3201 = Fails to play at all - Loading message stays forever.
Lenox 2003 = Fails to play at all with CD-DA message
PC PowerDVD = OK

Internal Nero 5.5.9.22(alternate); iso/udf; Fuji DVD+RW; HP200i 1.36 firmware:
Sony dvp-ns300 = OK
Sony dvp-560D = OK
Sony dvp-PQ1 = OK
Apex 3201 = Fails to play at all - Loading and DVD message shows but no play.
Lenox 2003 = Fails to play at all with CD-DA message
PC PowerDVD = OK

-----------------------------------------
External Full Nero 5.5.10; udf; Fuji DVD+RW; HP200i 1.36 firmware:
Sony dvp-ns300 = OK
Sony dvp-560D = OK
Sony dvp-PQ1 = OK
Apex 3201 = Fails to play at all - - Loading message stays forever.
Lenox 2003 = Fails to play at all with CD-DA message
PC PowerDVD = OK

--------------------------------------------

In conclusion, my best solution is Ulead DMF 1.0 but just because my home dvd are not as complex as other or because Ulead is doing something right there.

As per Nero, the above results are always consistent. Nero will play now in my Sony but it does not play in my Apex. I think this is also a change made in 5.5.10

My best DVD player is one of the Sony least expensive. My best player is the SONY DVP-PQ1 (Portable around $120).
