When Are 9.4Gb DVD Recorders Coming

Are there any plans to develop dual layered recorders? If so when and by who?

No plans yet. The new bluray technology will make them obsolete anyway.

Dual layer recording would require engineering I've never heard of. The dual layered movies you buy at Best Buy or wherever are not burned, they are made in a stamping like process.

And Ian is right, Blueray is poised to knock them all out. :)

The sooner, the better.

Here I posted about a new PCI HDTV card planned for release two weeks later though it was announced four weeks ago.

How does it differ from currently available HDTV cards?

To put it roughly:

Software HDTV PCI card vs. Hardware HDTV PCI card.

Like software DVD vs. hardware DVD (but not exactly.)

The CEO of a competing company (Sasem) which makes hardware-based HDTV card criticized about this cheaper product last month. It has less features and consumes more CPU power.

That's nifty. Now if I only had an HDTV...

Watching HDTV on my monitor would suck. :(

Last time I heard, pressed dual layer discs were ~8.5GB per side...
You do have the option of buying double-sided DVD-R discs (4.7GB per side, 9.4GB total) if you'd like to back up movies greater than 4.7GB in size, using DVDXCopy or something, and still use one disc.

Which costs more than buying two separate disks and is more inconvenient, awkward, and unsafe.

How is a double sided DVD-R more dangerous than a single sided one?

both sides of the disc are "vulnerable", more so than when only one side.
handling and storage more trickey.

Don't worry, research and development started long enough
ago to get it out at the same time bluray comes out.
