Do I Need A DVD-ROM Drive?

Postby craiger on Mon Jan 06, 2003 11:55 pm

I was wondering about DVD-ROM. I rarely play games on my PC. I have a DVD player for my TV. Would I really need a DVD-ROM on my PC? I am guessing if I did want a game it would come on CD-ROM or DVD-ROM, same with programs. Thanks, Craig.

Just ask your self, what my cdrom (or cdrw) doesn't have that a dvd does?
Are you going to see movies in your pc?
Are you going to use software that comes in dvd media?
Do you want to rip music to your pc (actually your cdrom already does this but if it really sucks then it might be worth the upgrade)?
Are you going to rip movies?

Dvd drives are relatively cheap now but often they become cdroms with dvd capabilities. Most software that come in dvd are also available on cdrom. If you dont have a cdrw maybe you should consider a cdrw/dvd combo drive, or if you need to backup large files you might also consider a dvd burner instead of just a dvdrom.
