anyone have the addonics pocket drive?

I'm looking for a lightweight optical drive that can be powered directly from USB or Firewire. On the tablet PC forumn, I heard this drive can do it.

Does anyone here have it, or know of someone who does? It's a rather pricey drive, and I would trust the knowledge of folks on this community.

Or does anyone know of another drive that can be powered directly from the tablet PC/Notebook?

I don't know anything about this class of recorders, as I have never used one. But here a couple of others to consider as well. The EXP company sells a number of portable optical drives that are powered by PCMCIA card connections:

Sony sells a battery-powered DVD/CD-RW combo drive:

Teac also sells a battery powered model:

(the link is down right now)

And don't forget to check out the Freecom Traveler (computer, battery and AC adapter powered):
