DRU-500A "available" at beatprice.com.

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered the DRU-500A from beatprice.com. According to Reseller Ratings.com, this company should be avoided like the plague. However, I called and spoke to Frank. I told him his shipping stunk and he dropped it from $25.00 to $15.00. I also told him I would bury him if he screwed with me. He said it would ship out today. Also, you may or may not know that there is also a $50.00 rebate from Sony for the DRU-500A. Personally, I went against my better judgement and purchased this from these people. Well, since this group is the only reseller who claims to have these in stock, we will have to wait and see…

Where is the rebate form at? I didn't find one anywhere on Sony's website.

you have to go to datavision.com and download the rebate. It is kinda odd, no other site has the rebate listed, not even sony? the rebate only applies to a few retailers, so make sure you buy the drive from one of them. If you need it I can email it to you.

realdieu - beatprice.com is overpriced, the price of the DRU-500A should not exceed $350, it's funny they even call it "online special" and claims retail price of "$400.95", hope that was in pesos.

The rebate is only valid for purchases at American TV, Bailos, Best Buy, Brandsmart, Circuit City, CompUSA, Datavision, Fry's, J&R, Nebraska Furniture, Office Depot, Sony Style, Staples, State Street, The Wiz or Ultimate Electronics between 11/15/2002 and January 31, 2003.

combatant - Thanks for the heads up, you just sweetened my deal with my Sony DRX-500UL with the $50 MIR. For those of you with PC World (US Edition, December 2002), there is a 10% off coupon good through January 31, 2003. The coupon knocked the price of Sony DRX-500UL to $387 before sales tax or $419 after sales tax, now a $50 MIR, sweet!

You might want to check the fine print. It looks like the rebate is valid only if it was purchased at certain stores.

Which probably explains why it's not on Sony's website.

The worst case scenario is that one doesn't get the rebate. Only .37 to lose (US Postal Service postage) and an envelope.
