Any way to make 4x CDRW media burn faster?

Postby burticus on Thu Jan 02, 2003 4:06 pm

I found a box of older cd-rw media in my closet the other day, Memorex 80 min 4x CD-RW.... Nero will burn these fine but it locks the speed at 4x and won't let me turn it up (10x is the max for my liteon 24102b). Is there any way to trick nero into coughing up higher rewrite speeds? I'm just spoiled and there is no way I want to spend half an hour to format each of these and have to deal with 20-30 min burn times...

Thanks for any tips!

hi.

i dont think that is possible. CD-RW's rated at 4X, will be detected as 4X by the writer. What you can do is buy CD-RW's rated at 10X, their not very expensive these days..

Well yeah, I did buy some 10x media... it's just that they were a buck a pop and if there was some way to use the 4x at 10x then I would try it so I don't throw away a spindle of 4x cdrw media...

I just wondered if it was possible since cdr's rated at slower speeds frequently can be jacked way up....

the 10x CDRWs are called Hi-Speed. there's a technological gap between them and the older, regular 4x CDRWs. so you can't burn a 4x CDRW at 10x.

Unless you use one of these..

All right, all right, forgive me already... It took me over 1100 posts before I resorted to a lame burning pun... But there was just something about this thread that made it feel right this time. Maybe because today, despite my better judgment and knowing full well it is a slab of junk, I pulled out my Memorex "high speed" CD-RW disc that came as a sample with my drive and tried to use it again. The results were predictable, and schemes for destroying the useless thing before I succumbed once more were already floating through my head. If I only had a fireplace and didn't need to worry about toxic fumes from incinerated polycarbonate, it seems like this would be a fitting last burn for the crummy CD-RW media with which I have been cursed...

That's my experience with Memorex 4x 80min RW's.

You can try them, but don't hold your breath that they'll be what you hoped for.

I recommend a little gasoline to help the fire along.

But not indoors!
