What brand cd-rw drive is the Verbatim 48x 12x 48x?

Many recent Verbatim drives are made by Liteon !
If somewhere in the box or manual mentioned Smartburn tech. is Liteon !

Surprisingly enough you can get Verbatim firmware updates from cendyne.com:

Most of the recent drives are Lite-ONs or AOpens, but AOpens are 48x12x50 so your drive is probably a Lite-ON.

I have CenDyne's external 48x writer and it has a Verbatim writer in it... but its made by Optorite!

Just be aware that Verbatim might have switched to Optorite.

Ian ok. Thanks ! Ian but so far all Buslink 52x 24x 52x are still liteon cd-rw drives correct? Just making sure it has not changed because stuff can change very fast.

Yeah, I have not heard of Buslink shipping another other than Lite-On for their 52x writer.

I just purchased three Verbatims (48x12x48) @ OfficeMax (Kansas City) tonight, HOPING that they would be Lite-Ons...Alas, they weren't. They were those butt-ass ugly Benqs, and they're 48x16x48. From what I can tell, the Benqs have LONG serial numbers starting with "99". Just look at the outside sticker on the Verbatim box.

I purchased one of the Verbatim "48x12x48" drives at the OfficeMax in Buffalo, NY. The price looked good, it was $20 + tax AR.

Inside was one of Verbatim-labeled Optorite CW4802 48x16x48 drives. The serial # starts with "AGE150F.........."

I was really hoping for a Lite-On, as the generic box illustration certainly looked like one. (yeah, I should have known better...) Hell, even the user guide shows what looks like a Lite-On drive.
