Yamaha CRW-F1 new firmware (V1.0f) problem help

Postby Gustavo on Fri Jan 03, 2003 7:06 am

Hi all. Please, help me. I have just updated from version 1.0c to 1.0f, but Win XP simply refused to boot after this update. Instead, it started a process of "looping": when the "new hardware" (cd/rom) was about to be recognized a blue fatal screen appeared and the process of "looping" started again, again and again. Any ideas ? I had to remove the Yamaha from my computer, and I´m now affraid to install it back again.
Thanks a lot in advance

Hi

I must admit my upgrade has gone well, I have had no problems with the actual upgrade, have you tried re-installing the drive's origional firmware.

Try a safemode boot, if that fails remove the IDE cables and see if you can boot, then perhaps install the drive in a nother PC and try reverting to the origional Firmware.

With mine "Apparently" you can select 24x and 32x write speed with the "F" release? Well in all the CD writing packages I have (5 or 6 now) I can only still select 16x or 44x!! Weird!

I believe you have to turn off OWSC in order for the new speeds to show up.

Hiya

Thanks for the reply, but also forgive my ignorance, what is OSWC?

Cheers

Optimum Write Speed Control. It is the trademark for Yamaha's mechanism of adjusting burn settings to match media capabilities so as to prevent coasters. And VampBoy is correct about needing to disable OWSC to allow selection of the additional burn speeds. At least that is how it worked with previous firmware revisions.

You can disable OWSC via the checkbox that shows up when you press the "Options" button in the "Choose Recorder" dialog of Nero.

:) Tone Trainer, thanks a lot for the reply. I could reverse the firmware to the previous version (1.0c). It worked fine.
