NTFS or FAT32 for DVD-+ movie burning...

Postby Khanh M on Mon Dec 16, 2002 3:27 pm

Is there one type of file system that I should be using over the other? I was reading a dvd9 to dvd5 faq somewhere on the net and he had stated that I need to have NTFS file system...versus the FAT32 that I currently have.

Any truth to this? Adverse affects?

Regards,

All .VOB's must be 1GB or less, so there is no real need for the >4GB file support of NTFS. Though NTFS is recommended for other reasons, such as data integrity.

No difference for dvd dup's. But the 4 gig limit of fat32 can come into play if you are making huge divx movies...

Well, if you are making your own movies, from DV footage, the DVD footage will be captured as huge AVI files. Typically a hour long DV tape will produce a 15 GB AVI. You can of course capture it in smaller chunks, but I think the video editing packages use the avi format up till the point the film is finished and converted to MPEG, so thelarge files may still be created.
