Any idea about the new 7 series drives Ian?
Does that mean that we 6 series owners will get free 32X rewrite when the 52326 is released?

Their 7th generation drives probably uses a new hardware design (ex: new MediaTek chipset).

I'm more curious about the K,G and H designations.

That's exactly what I was curious about. I really wish that I produced CD Burning software so that I could try out all of the drives and get their firmwares

By the way that would be amazing bhairav if people with the MediaTek 6 chipset can flash our drives to 52x32x52x Hope they worked hard on the RW this time.

That will most likely support 16x burning on 12x media, but not support UltraSpeed media.

It could also be special models designed specifically for OEM's like Dell or Compaq. Not all of their customers are ready to step it up to 52x writing and 24x rewriting speeds yet.

My LTR-52246S will write at 16x on the 12x RW media that was bundled with my 48125W drive. Here's the disc:
This Disc is designed for CD-RW/COMBO Drive Only.
Disc Type, Material = HSCD-RW, Phase Change
ATIP Lead-in = 97m 15s 35f
Norminal Capacity = 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f)
Disc Manufacturer maybe = Nanya
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 16X
It's labeled as 12x. The results at 16x are unreadable, but it's interesting that SmartBurn sees it as 16x media.

Yeah nitish, I hope we can flash it up! Of course, media availability is another question altogether Here in Mumbai, generally available CDRWs only go upto 10x and that too "made by Princo"
Let's see, Verbatim media is coming on strong here now, so maybe those DatalifePlus cdr/rws can find a good home here

I thought that I saw this on the list of new drives -->LTR-52326K. That means that we have a 52x32x52x drive with a 6 series chip in it. That would also mean that we would probably be able to upgrade via MTKFlash using the firmware for this drive from our LTR-52246S to this drive, right?

Maybe.. the 52/32/52 ends with a K so there might be some slight differences in design.

someone in another thread suggested that the letter desination in the drive model stands for the chip manufacturer: S for ST Micro, W for Winbond.
if that's true what would G, H, K stand for?
or does this pull the rug from under his theory?

I suspect that the S and W may refer to the manufacturing facility. All of my S drives were made in China, the one W that I have was Taiwan. Maybe each plant initially used one type of chip and that's where the designation came from, but now the chip availability has changed?

As I posted at CDFreaks, my LTR-52246S has a Winbond chip in it, at least MTKFlash says so.
I think that the Mitsubishi 24x RW media is ready for 32x writing, bring on the firmware LiteOn!!!

Yeah, my 52246s has a Winbond chip too, according to MtkFlash. Maybe what dentman42 said is true.. seems to be the likeliest explanation I have heard so far!
On a related note, what is the availability of 24X Ultra Speed CDRWs in the USA? pretty good? I'm having serious problems getting them here in India.. they look at me as if I were some sort of weirdo when I ask them for 24X CDRWs, then they pause and kindly explain to me that i must be talking about CDRs and that 24X is hard to find!

lol You're talking about India, they're still not widely available in Canada.

You have to mail-order them here, the stores don't carry them. Even 12x media can be hard to find.

Darn! Let's see, I just saw a Verbatim advert for UltraSpeed CDRWs (DataLifePlus of course!). I'll inquire with them about the media.
