i know they're for cd-roms,
but what do they do ?
and do you need them ?
cause my comp was running fine without them

They are needed for some things like software such as CDVDInfo or ADVDInfo, etc.

i always install aspi drivers, you just get a better cd burn with em, at least thats what my experience is
