Rebadged Lite-On

Postby ngri714 on Thu Jan 01, 1970 4:29 am

I bought one at Office Max last week and it is a Lite-On. I can't say for sure all are, but unless they changed vendors I would say most if not all are Lite-Ons. Check out the picture on the front of the box and it looks like a Lite-On. I looked at the ones at my Office Max and they all were boxed the same with the same numbers. You can't get a serial off the back like the 24X-32X speed Cendynes though. If you bought one from them and it was not a Lite-On, return it for another. I love mine and I upgraded the firmware to the latest version.

All 48x CenDyne are currently LiteOn.
They may change vendors, but as of right now they are all LiteOn.

I am very happy with mine; it complements my TEAC CD-W540E nicely.

Cendyne drives are not all Lite-On!

Postby nosro on Thu Jan 01, 1970 4:33 am

I purchased one of the Cendyne 48x12x48 drives and opened the box to find a 48x16x48 drive with the model number CW4802. Turns out that this is an AccessTek/Optorite drive.

Luckily, you can tell what is in the Cendyne box by looking at the label. The stick-on label with all the specifications also has a model number. Mine said "CW4802" and sure enough, I got a "CW4802" (Optorite drive) inside. I returned the box and rummaged for a box that said "LTR-48125w". I found one, and this one was a Lite-On. The drive actually had a Lite-On label and a copy of Nero with Lite-On on the CD label.

Incidentally, my Lite-On drive is locked to the copy of Nero that comes with it. Is this the case with all 48x12x48 Lite-On's? I cannot use my regular copy of Nero - the program says you must install the Nero that came with the drive.

It's the software that's locked to the drive, not the other way around. Are you sure that your "regular" copy of Nero is a full unlocked version?

Nero locked to Lite-On drive

Yes, I believe that my copy of Nero is not locked. The reason I say this is that my current installation of Nero has seen four other CD burners (a Philips 8x4x32, an Aopen 24x10x40, a Benq 40x12x48, and a Benq 48x16x48). I haven't reinstalled Nero since way back then, but now Nero refuses to work with the Lite-On unless I installed the included Nero disc.

Does your Nero About screen show just the version number or does it also have the letters OEM somewhere on the screen? Have you tried an update? It's up to 5.9.9.9 now.

I don't see "OEM" anywhere in the "about" or "help" screens. And yes, I updated to the pervious month's version (I haven't downloaded 5.9.9.9 yet).

Is it possible that the latest versions of Nero maintains an updated list of "locked" CD-RW drives (such as the Lite-On LTR48125W)?

Cuz personally i want the Lite-On... this other model (CW4802) has given me nothing but problems.... im gonna keep returning till i get it ^_^... any input wanted....

The Optorite CW4802 drives have a lot of problems. It amazes me how Optorite could put a drive like this out there. The writing quality on these drives are absolutely horrible and the media compatibility isn't very good either.
