Buffer Underrun while burning audio tracks.

Burn baby burn!

Buffer Underrun while burning audio tracks.

Postby ksyrium on Thu Dec 26, 2002 11:15 am

Hello there,

I have a samsung CDRW model SW-248B. Just got it recently from a PC exibition.

At first, I was very pleased with the 48x burn speed, it took less than 3 mins to complete burning a 750mb CD! I kept burning backups of my mp3files, applications and movies without any problems at all.

Soon, I got sick of my current portable CD(Audio CD) and decide to burn a new compliation. Unfortunately, I kept gettin the "buffer underrun" error everytime the process is about 100% completed. All the tracks were burned in, however, about 10-20 seconds of the start of every song is cut.

If this Samsung can burn Data CDs successfully, I don't understand why it can't burn audio CDs perfectly. I've updated the firmware and using the latest Nero Burning Rom (Version 5.5.10.0) and still the problem persists.
I even tried closing all the unecessary applications including virus scanner, ICQ, MSN as they might have caused the burn failure but still, It can't burn properly.

I never had this problem with my old Ricoh 8x8x32x

Your help is greatly appericiated.

I strongly advice you to burn music CD's or MP3's or as a fact anything to do with music at a low speed, and when I say low I mean either 4x or 8x. Forget about using high speeds like 32x, 40x or 48x as a matter of fact. Burning data CD's and MP3 or music is a completely different thing, due to different types of info that go onto the blank CD-R., and take note that data and MP3 is not the same thing.

In terms of media type, this really is a personal preference and for myself for music use, I use Kodak Gold & Silver CD-R's. Have had no problems with them what so ever and I highyly reccomend them. Also try and stick to something that your happy with and works well.

I have two burners. a BenQ and a Liteon. Been extremely happy with both and both burn very well.

And remember by the end of the day when it comes to burning music, you want quality not quantity.

ksyrium,

It should be virtually impossible to get a buffer underrun error with your burner which has Oak Technology's buffer underrun free technology. If you will post the text of a failed burn from the NeroHistory.log in the Nero folder this may provide information regarding the burn failure.

Is there a check box for "Buffer underrun protection" in the Burn dialog?
In Recorder | Choose Recorder | Options is there an option to enable buffer underrun protection?

As far as the recording speed with music, you can burn at the fastest speed which returns an acceptably low error rate. Burning at low speeds does not guarantee a higher quality recording. The quality returned by different burn speeds can only be determined by testing with different media at different speeds to see what works best with your burner and playback devices. Frequently, the best quality may be returned at neither the highest or lowest speeds, but somewhere in between. :)
